Mississauga Health and Ontario Health recognized the pivotal role COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics (CCFCC) played during the pandemic to care for people experiencing influenza-like-illnesses and avoid unnecessary visits to the emergency department. As the fall season is upon us, Mississauga Health is partnering with Summerville Family Health Team, Credit Valley Family Health Team, and Trillium Health Partners Women’s & Children’s Program to open a temporary community-based Paediatrics Care Clinic. This clinic will focus on alleviating emergency department pressures. The Mississauga Paediatrics Care Clinic is available to children aged 6 months old to 17 years old who do not have a family physician, or their family physician does not have an after hours on-call clinic to assist you/your child with certain non-urgent care needs (e.g., cough, cold and flu symptoms).

The Mississauga Paediatrics Care Clinic - What you need to know before visiting.

What is the Paediatrics Care Clinic?

The Mississauga Paediatrics Care Clinic is a medical clinic that can assess and provide treatment for children from 6 months old to 17 years old with cold and flu-like illnesses by appointment only.

What are the symptoms treated at our clinic?

Below are some of the symptoms your child may have:

• Fever or chills
• Cough (not related to other causes such as allergies)
• Decreased or loss of taste or smell
• Runny nose or nasal congestion
• Headache
• Sore throat
• Muscle aches or joint pain
• Gastrointestinal symptoms (such as vomiting or diarrhea)
• Abdominal pain
• Pink eye

When should I visit the Mississauga Paediatrics Care Clinic?

The clinic is available to the paediatric community that do not have a family physician, or their family physician does not have an after-hours clinic to assess your child.

Consider visiting The Mississauga Paediatrics Care Clinic if:

• You do not have a primary care provider
• Your child’s symptoms are getting worse or are not improving, and you feel that you need medical care
• You have been told by any health professional to go to the Care Clinic

How to Scan a QR code:

When do I bring my child to the emergency department?

If your child develops severe symptoms (see below symptoms), call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department. If your child does not have a family doctor and you are worried your child is seriously ill, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.

For children, severe symptoms include:

• Working hard or straining to breathe – for example, the lower chest is moving in more than normal when the child breathes, the child is grunting, or the child’s nostrils are flaring
• Bluish skin
• Unable to breastfeed or drink
• Very sleepy or difficult to wake
• Peeing less than usual
• Fever with rash
• Seizures or convulsions
• Fever in an infant younger than 3 months

Important information about the Care Clinic:

• The Clinic is not a COVID-19 assessment centre. A COVID-19 test is only provided if necessary and if you are eligible according to the provincial guidelines. (COVID-19 test and testing location information | COVID-19 (coronavirus) in Ontario)
• Your child will receive timely in-person care from health care providers for flu-like symptoms on the same day or next day, if possible. This may include self-care advice, COVID-19 tests, or prescriptions.
• We are unable to provide care to patients younger than 6 months of age.
